Robert Maril

Baritone Robert Maril hails from Ponca City, Oklahoma and holds a bachelor of Music degree from DePauw University and a Master of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory. While studying at Peabody, Robert met and befriended composer George Lam, beginning a musical collaboration that continues to the present. Along with Dr. Lam, Robert is a founding member of Rhymes With Opera, which includes composer Ruby Fulton and singers Elisabeth Halliday and Bonnie Lander. Rhymes with Opera is an ensemble committed to staging new dramatic vocal works by emerging composers. Of a recent Rhymes With Opera production, Tim Smith of The Baltimore Sun wrote, “Maril’s singing was particularly impressive, warm in tone, [and] full of dynamic nuance.”

In addition to his work in classical music, indie music, and theater, Robert is an in-demand DJ. He has manned the decks in New York at Barracuda, The Eagle, The Box, The Ritz, Easternbloc, Rockbar, The Cock, and the long-running Stonewall Inn party RIOT!, a dance party that benefits homeless GLBT youth
